Characteristics of magnetic reed sensors

Magnetic reed sensors have many unique attributes that make them an ideal choice for many different applications. These characteristics include:


Operators can control the conditions and effectiveness of the magnetic cylinder reed switch sensor. For example, manufacturers can install the reed switches on colored metal materials, or insert a colored metal material barrier between the sensor and the bracket.

Energy efficient

Magnetic reed sensors only require power when the switch is in a non-default position. Locking sensors have higher power requirements because the switch remains in the last position until actively triggered.


Hydraulic cylinder magnetic sensor can withstand damage from harsh environmental conditions including moisture, temperature, and extreme weather. This is due to their simple mechanism, protective seal, and sensitivity to magnetic fields regardless of working conditions.

Safe to use under different conditions

Magnetic reed sensors can be used in extreme and hazardous environments. Their sealing, shock resistance, and simple circuitry allow them to withstand explosive, vibrational and other hazardous environments. Also, the sealing of the protective container allows magnetic reed sensors to operate safely near explosive gases.


Magnetic reed sensors' sensitivity to magnetic fields is not affected by environmental factors. As temperature increases, its response to magnetic fields becomes more sensitive.

Applications of magnetic reed sensors

There are numerous magnetic field sensor applications in nearly every industry. They provide a very simple and controllable mechanism for safely opening and closing circuits. Various magnetic reed sensor types are used in industrial facilities for passive running of equipment that does not require direct intervention or for devices that automatically shut down in case of failure. These default controls, controlled by normally open and closed switches, create safe and efficient workspaces.

Home Appliances

Magnetic reed sensors operate well in appliances that create humid or moist environments, such as dishwashers, refrigerators, and washing machines.

Automation and Manufacturing

Magnetic reed sensors have countless practical applications in production. Conveyors, cylinder pistons, and automation plant machinery use magnetic reed sensors to detect limits and facilitate on/off functions.

Automotive Industry

Automotive products need to meet strict standards to prevent failure. Magnetic reed sensors are used in automotive parts and OEM components to create circuits that operate in the car engine. These devices need to resist high temperatures, be close to other circuits (assisted by colored metal barriers), vibration, and gas circuits.

Reed sensors help with automatic door opening and closing. They also act as safety devices for doors and windows or proximity contacts for equipment designed with clamshell.
